Our Take On: The Dove Selfie Campaign

Remember yesterday when I said today I teamed up with Tori @ A Little Leigh Way for an exciting post? Well it's here!!

Months ago we began discussing starting a possible series on all things positively influencing women in the world and today is our series premiere! I couldn't be more excited for the topic we picked, so let's get to it.

First things first, if you don't know what the Dove Selfie Campaign is watch it now, below.

Now that you've taken a look at this awesome campaign, we can get to the fun part of discussing it! This campaign has had a fair bit of backlash, but the world selfie has had a ton of backlash as well. The term is used so much that it actually was Oxford's word of the year.

A selfie [obvi] is a picture you take of yourself. We used to call them Myspace photos, but apparently everyone has mastered cropping their arm out of the front of the picture...oh wait, our cell phones have evolved to our cameras with front facing cameras. Perfect!

Some people [many of them of a different generation than me] think that a selfie is self-ish and self-conceited but I think that they display self-worth.

Hear me out:

Each of us values ourselves for different reasons and some of us feel more comfortable in pictures than others, true. However, when you find a picture that you feel you look good in..it's a success! You feel good about that picture.

When you have low self-esteem, finding that one picture may change your perspective. Taking those pictures are empowering, while contradicting that at the same time.

What I like most about the Selfie campaign is that it tries to take away that contradiction - and it involves mothers and daughters bonding. [Having a female role model to bond with does wonders on your self-esteem and growth.]

This is me as I'm writing this post.

Oh hey there face! Now I snapped this picture really quick. Like, one and done. Which usually isn't the case with seflies when we share them on social media- but what if they could be?

Something interesting I've learned about myself in this is: while I wear makeup only a few days a week, I don't like to take selfies without makeup on my face. Interesting...

So now that you've watched the selfie video and learned my take on the selfie, you should definitely head over to A Little Leigh Way and learn Tori's take on the selfie!! Go right now!

Then after you do that, take back the selfie with  #BeautyIs!
