Help! Wedding Music Confusion

Ooh! It is the first Wedding Wednesday of 2014!! Woo hoo!!

I am not sure if you remember, but I set a list of smaller goals to accomplish in December...that list now looks like this:

- reach out to our officiant and nail it down
- set up a date to meet with my uncle re: music
- speak with Iman's cousin and set up a date for our meeting with the florist
- go to the bra store!
- make a list of all of the things we need to buy (including things for the DIY)
- go to the Social Security Administration and get a new card

- apply for passport
- when Iman gets his bonus, buy our honeymoon plane ticket!
- finish up wedsite
- look at wedding band designs while in Vegas [our jeweler is in Vegas]

So, I got about halfway done! Which isn't too bad. Plus some of this stuff is in the works, i.e. I tried to contact our officiant but he didn't call us back which means I might be on the hunt for a new officiant (which sucks because I was trying to do this cost-free!). I did not set up a date to meet with my uncle, but it will be in the next few weeks, he said. Today my goal was to have my music ideas nailed down...so that is what we are hashing out!!

And my mom bought these for us :)

I love a good music post, so let's get to the fun and games!!

I looked up online what songs I should definitely plan for and this is my list:  [oh boy do I love lists today!]

Ceremony

  • Prelude:
  • Processional:
  • Bride Entrance: The Light - Sara Bareilles

  • Recessional: From This Moment - Shania Twain
  • Postlude:

Reception

  • Wedding Party Entrance:
  • Bride and Groom Entrance:
  • First Dance: "Marry Me" - First Dance Mix - Train [Iman picked this!]

  • Mother/Son and Father/Daughter: We aren't doing this!
  • Money Dance:
  • Anniversary Dance:
  • Cake Cutting:
  • Last Dance:

Oh boy, I am so behind on this!!

I know we also want to include these songs, but I'm not sure where they fit best:

You're Still the One - Shania Twain
Still into You - Paramore
Memory - Sugarcult [our very, very first song]
Collide - Howie Day [our first slow dance song at Winter Formal]
Umbrella (Cinderella Remix) - Chris Brown [this song is sooo hard to find since they broke up, but Iman loves it]
Thousand Years - Christina Perri
Stereo Heart - Gym Class Hero

But here is another list of songs I love that I am hoping Iman wants to do some.

How Sweet it Is - James Taylor
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
You Are the Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne

And the rest I can't remember!!

What songs are you playing in your wedding? Do you have any advice for me?

  3. I love the song "The Light". Gorgeous! I like the idea of making small list of things to do. So smart! I need to do that because I still have so much to do!

    Thanks for linking up!

  5. Holy shit Jeff Buckley has a beautiful voice, use anything from him that's not sad. Christina Perri's "Thousand Years" is adorable. I haven't thought much about what would play at my wedding. I try to avoid it because if I start, I won't stop til I have finished. Plus I want input from Mr. Physicspants, I shant be asking such things for awhile. Though I do assume that "Dig" by Incubus will make the cut. It's be our song for years, makes me weepy and I am NOT a weepy woman.

  6. This is so sweet, I'm a sucker for good love songs! I'm in no way getting married anytime soon but two weddings songs that comes into mind is: Beautiful in White - Shane Filan; and of course, the classic, From This Moment On - Shania Twain and Bryan White. I would absolutely love to have those two songs play during my wedding.

  7. For our cake cutting moment we did the song "how sweet it is to be loved by you" and it was a cute throwback. and i suggest doing a fun upbeat song for the last dance, we did living on a prayer.

  8. ooh yeah! A fun upbeat one would be awesome. I just remembered Stereo Hearts is another one of our faves. Maybe that one for our last song. I love the songs you picked!!

  10. I seriously just recently fell in love with Jeff Buckley's voice and I have loved CP for YEARS. I have art work in one of her music videos ;)

When you two get married I am going to be so, so happy.I can't wait for that day!! Same with Keaton and Kevin...funniest story is that the 3 of us always talk about not needing to be married young, etc in regards to all of the girls from ET but we're all one of VERY few that are actually in relationships with people who have been in our lives for A DECADE. Courtney, A DECADE.

  14. aww it is just such a great song! My aunt always texts the two of us when she hears it because it makes her think of us. He knows I love Train and I think he not-so-secretly loves that song because I find him listening to it all the time

  15. I walked down the aisle to the instrumental version of Thousand Years covered by The Piano Guys. The bridal party was introduced into the reception to The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). Our first dance was Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop by Landon Pigg. It was quirky and wonderful. Put them where they make you happy. :)

  16. OH MY GOD I love Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop! I forgot about my love for that song. I think it is being added to the list.

Thank you for the song advice, I am looking the others up!!

  17. James Taylor is the best! I love his voice! We have our ceremony worked out since it's a traditional Mass, but we do need to work on our Do Not Play List and Must Play List for our DJ!
