To my Warrior Princess

I've seen letters like this floating around the blogosphere and in articles. Last week I wrote about why I don't have baby fever, which of course led me to think about when I do have a baby. Also, one of my Ohio besties is having a baby girl any day now! [Not to mention, I found out another childhood bestie is expecting!!!]

My dearest Warrior Princess,
I want you to remember these words when you're going through those tough times. I want you to remember these words when some other little girl is giving you a "stink face" because she doesn't understand your actions, clothing choices, or you, at all. I want you to remember these words when boys are pulling your hair and making fun of you for absolutely anything.
You are enough. You are beautiful. You are strong. You are brave. You are a warrior queen.
They probably won't get it and I know that you will feel that hurt, because I always felt that hurt. I've been made fun of for the way I dress, the way I act, the way that I've always had to wear glasses. Someone will always find something, just smile and tell them they don't have the right to make fun of you.
We're empathetic people, your father, and I. Everyone wants to be liked, and you will be no different. But those people will never truly like you because they don't like themselves.
Their minds can be opened, just like we were raised. Their jealousy can fade, but they must first figure themselves out.
We know who we are. We know what we like, and we should never be mean to someone else because they think differently. Always share what you have, because you will meet someone who has less.
Don't listen to the words on the television from the celebrities who haven't figured themselves out yet. Don't worry, I'll point out the celebrity role models. The women you should look up to. But of course, each one will come with her own set of insecurities. We won't put anyone on a pedestal, because we all make mistakes, myself included.
You will make mistakes, but you can always come to me about them. I will listen, and I won't judge. We'll work toward a solution and work out your emotions. I know you won't always believe me, like me, talk to me, but I hope our relationship can be like the one I had.
I love you. No matter what.
Mom

I'd love to get this printed on something, maybe tweak it a little bit for when I do get pregnant and if I have a little girl.

What letter would you write to your daughter? How will you treat the young women in your life so they become strong warrior queens?

P.s. It's National Suicide Prevention Week, what are you doing to raise awareness?

  1. This is just beautiful, I do think you should print it off for your future daughter (and it could be easily changed for a son).

I want my daughters to grow up not second guessing themselves because of what others believe. I want them to grow free and feel free to express themselves without worry of breaking the rules (I'm thinking art here lol)

The biggest though is I want them to grow up and find a man who treats them like their daddy would, with respect and care which means first they need to treat themselves with such.
