So You're Engaged...Pinterest Board

Hello, hello!

As promised, I'm finally beginning my wedding series (since you're all probably bored of looking at my mushy wedding pictures). I'm calling this series "So you're engaged...now what?" and will be focusing on different aspects of your engagement and wedding planning.

To start...let's talk about the Pinterest board.

He's popped the question and you've told everyone and you've blissfully had that week of engagement bliss before you get into the planning. You're excited to start planning...

I can't tell you how many times someone said to me "I wish I had had Pinterest to help me plan my wedding!" while I was engaged. Read: It was a LOT!

I think Pinterest is both a blessing and a curse. You can find the most unique wedding quirks, advice and deals on Pinterest. That's a fact. Gone are the days when you had to spend a ton of money scouring wedding magazines (let's be honest, I didn't actually like any of the wedding magazines I read. I'm not mainstream enough).

At the same time, Pinterest can be completely and totally overwhelming - especially when you aren't sure what style you want your wedding. Here are my top tips on starting your wedding Pinterest board.

1. First things first, Congratulations! I really hope you're starting your Pinterest board the day after you get engaged. Please, please, please do not start it before that. Or if you do, make it secret. I always thought it was weird to have wedding details planned out...when I didn't know who my groom would be. Of course, I hoped it would be my current boyfriend, but you never know for sure until he pops the question! So I waited to start my Pinterest board.

2. Brainstorm ideas with your fiance on how you both see your weddings. Some guys don't care. Some guys like to plan each detail with you. You're never going to know until you ask him- and how much would a wedding fight suck because you have an image of your wedding in your mind and his looks totally different.

3. Decide upon a color scheme or theme. Search those first.

4. Don't just meander over to the Pinterest Wedding section unless you want to have a panic attack in moments. It's not for the faint of heart. There are ideas everywhere and it's easy to just spend hours and hours pinning a million things that you will never do for your wedding.

5. Invite your bridesmaids and whoever else's input you value to your wedding board. That way they can pin ideas for you, too.

6. Once you have a healthy sized board going, make a list of your favorite links and show them to your fiance. (Unless he truly doesn't care. Iman had so much fun planning each part with me - not the actual crafting, but the ideas. He came up with so many of our ideas and it made our wedding so much more special).

You can follow my wedding board here! I would love to see your wedding board links below! (Even though I'm already married, I'm still obsessed).

  1. Thanks for this breakdown, hun. Not that I have a wedding coming up soon or anything. And I'm not actually on Pintrest, afraid I'll get addicted! :-) I recently signed up for Polyvore and these wishlist things can get so addicting!

  2. My sister-in-law just got engaged this past May on her 30th birthday. She is definitely overwhelmed with the wedding stuff and she will be graduating for dental hygiene school in April. I'm so glad that she moved the wedding back to June of 2016. I hated seeing her so stressed!

  3. I love looking up wedding stuff on Pinterest and getting further wedding ideas! Even though I'm FAR from getting married, it feels like I have most of the details already planned out <3

  4. Oh man Pinterest is my weakness! I am in a long term relationship and I refuse to start a wedding board just because I am scared that I would become addicted to pinning wedding stuff then never actually get marred lol. These are great tips though :)

  5. Such great ideas for a Engagement/Wedding pinterest board. I don't think its wrong to have ideas before a proposal though. Maybe don't have the whole thing planned out, but a few ideas won't hurt anyone :)

  9. Love this post, but I've already gone against your first rule! I have a pinterest Wedding board - but to be fair it's just because I think weddings are so beautiful!

I know my man is the one for me too!

  11. Pinterest came out just months after my wedding. Sometimes I feel bad I missed out, but mostly I'm glad there wasn't another stressor to add any more pressure to the mix!

  12. What great advice! I can't wait to view your board!

  13. It's true! A lot of women get seriously stressed out about Pinterest Weddings!

  14. It isn't a rule, just a suggestion!! Mostly, I hope that you and your man plan ideas together - it made it feel so special and like "our" wedding not "my wedding"

  15. aww, that is awesome! I have definitely planned 2 baby showers from Pinterest!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I definitely agree!! You can look around, but you want to make sure that your wedding is for both of you, just not yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's exciting!! I definitely knew a general idea of what I was interested in for my wedding (theme wise, color wise and dresswise) but planning out the details with my husband and hearing his suggestions were my favorite part of planning!

  18. aww, I LOVE WEDDINGS ON PINTEREST! I just want to pin them all, even though I already got married, too!

  19. I do, too! I love party planning with it!

  20. That is awesome! I love looking at my planner's wedding board!

    ReplyDelete
  21. oh definitely! Especially because many of the suuuuper amazing ones are planned for photoshoots with no budget

  22. hahaha, I think I had a little bit of that fear myself...especially because I always had my running shoes on!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh gosh! That would be SO stressful!! I think a long engagement is definitely better than being too stressed out!

  24. I haven't gone ton Polyvore for fear of becoming addicted!! I actually spend a healthy amount of time on Pinterest...besides pinning things from blogs, I only go on it once a week...luckily I'm too busy or I would spend all of my time on it! Though if I start planning a party I'm on it nonstop

  25. Great tips on how to create a board! I imagine that the whole process is a bit overwhelming :-)

  26. Pinterest didn't exist when I got married. Man, if it did, I would have been in a black hole of ideas. These are great tips!

  27. This is pretty much exactly how we are doing the wedding that i am a maid of honor in!

  28. Ahhh pinterest. I honestly can't plan anything without a pinterest board these days. I love the ideas, quick ways to find how to do DIY and just what it should look like in pics right there in front of me. Yes, a pinterest board is a MUST when planning a wedding.

  30. Yes!! It is so easy to organize your thoughts with them!!

  31. Hahahha- is it wrong that I already have a wedding Pinterest board and I'm not even engaged? I've been pinning on it for a good two years now hahahahha!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not even! just don't have your heart set on things that your fiance might not be into because you'll set yourself up for disappointment!

    ReplyDelete
  33. pintrest is such a fab tool! I'm not engaged but these are great tips :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. You are so right about Pinterest being a blessing and a curse. Pinterest made me have so much anxiety when I was wedding planning. I think it would have been lovely to have gotten married before Pinterest was around!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I just show him what I like mostly. He definitely has ideas of what he wants too - can't for all of this one day :) <3

    ReplyDelete
  36. Great tips! I agree that it's a blessing and a curse as well. By the end I was so excited to NOT see something we were doing on Pinterest!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I totally understand! It is so easy to get overwhelmed by it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. haha exactly! I liked sharing them AFTER the wedding, but not before it!
